Shall We Acquiesce?

NEVER!

(Although we will gladly hand over our dance card, Valentine)

Did you make it to the AAMC Town Hall on Tuesday? It was mostly disappointing. The only wonderfully bright moments came when Alexa Pagonas mentioned, slowly and clearly, not once but twice, that, in fact, this is an "acquisition" and "Mills College will no longer exist after June 2022." Sadly, it seems, the petitioners may believe otherwise.

The Petitioners, a group of Alums who fought for the AAMC lawsuit to be dropped, droned on about the need to never sue the College again. Yet, why would we give up this right? Hillman and Northeastern have thus far proven that they are very good at breaking promises.

The Petitioners were super condescending in their tone and lack of emotion.

It's almost as if Hillman, herself, had written their speeches!

ACTION for ALUMS

- Deadline, 2/19: Survey and Response on the Future Direction of the AAMC.

We encourage you to speak boldly. Remember, there is NO Mills College after June.

Thus, there is no reason for Mills Alums to be involved - giving money - in the least.

- Deadline, 2/22: Send in your vote regarding the lawsuit and future lawsuit action. We encourage you to vote NO on both items. You must mail in the signed form and include your Mills ID#. For more info: email aamc@mills.edu or call (510) 430-2110.

While we barely managed to stay awake during the Town Meeting, the Staff and Adjunct Faculty had a very exciting meeting with the Union, held that very same evening. After a vote of "no confidence" last Spring and a minor lunch-time rally last Fall, the Staff is finally tired of the College's silence. They have been without a contract for almost two years and there are no guarantees for them regarding employment or severance.

PROTESTING WILL BEGIN SHORTLY

And, we have pledged our solidarity along with the students! Will you stand with us?

Our Target: Hillman.

Get Fired Up, Get Involved! Protest planners and attendees are needed.  More bodies = More Press! Email us ASAP: all4millsnow@gmail.com.

And, In Other News...

The Mills College 2020-21 Audit is now public. The highlights:

- Positive Cash Flow

- Debt Paid: $2.3M

- Endowment Grew 20% to $225.6M (June)

- Administrative Spending UP by $3.6M; EXCEEDING the Education Budget by $6.6M.

For reference, Mills spends $12M MORE on Administration than Holy Names College (similar in size). Healthy schools typically spend MORE on Education and LESS on Admin.

CONCLUSION: Mills is NOT Broke.

And, with this revelation, it's time to COMPLAIN!

The California Bureau for Postsecondary Education, a unit of the CA department of Consumer Affairs, needs to hear from us. We need to flood this very small department with loads of complaints (encourage students, your family, friends and neighbors). Our actions will pressure them to push for a formal investigation by the CA Attorney General's office.

Lies Beth Has Told

We learned this week that over 70 MFA students are now forced to be "Interdisciplinary Arts" majors or they must transfer. This hodgepodge of multi-arts reminds us of high school where a student experiences a little bit of dance, art, music and writing.

You can imagine the heartbreak and grief these MFA students must feel. We've also heard that the Book Arts faculty have left for other positions outside of Mills.

Our current social media campaign focused on the "Lies," is getting attention. 895 supporters have signed the Fire Beth Petition. Sign Now & Share.

Let's get to 1,000 supporters!

Pop in for conversation and to provide support to students. They are our newest and perhaps our last alums to join us. Let's welcome them with open arms!
